The Corporate Council on Africa (CCA) and the AGOA Steering Committee invite you to attend the 2003 Private Sector Session of the AGOA Forum on December 8 and 9, 2003, in Washington, D.C.

The Private Sector Session venues are the J.W. Marriott Hotel – Pennsylvania Avenue and the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art.

This year’s Session will focus on crucial policy questions confronting AGOA, including the future of AGOA and how to make AGOA more active in a wider number of sectors.  The Session’s workshops will examine these questions in the following sectors:  Agriculture and agribusiness; handicrafts; and textiles and apparel.

The Session is sure to attract nearly 300 African and U.S. government policy makers, business leaders, cabinet ministers, entrepreneurs and investors for two days of networking and debate in the U.S. capital.  This is a unique venue for affecting AGOA-related policy and for enhancing commercial ties between African and U.S. business.

The Program

The first day of the Session will begin with two plenary meetings to provide an overview of AGOA’s performance in the year following the previous AGOA Forum in Mauritius.  The plenaries will also highlight sectors that have not yet fully benefited from AGOA.  After a luncheon for all delegates, the afternoon’s program will consist of sector-specific workshops.  Workshops for the agriculture/agribusiness and apparel/textiles sector will take place at the J.W. Marriott Hotel.

Through a special agreement with the prestigious Smithsonian National Museum of African Art, workshops for the handicrafts sector will be held in the Museum, located a short distance from the J.W. Marriott Hotel.  Transportation will be provided to and from the Museum for delegates attending the handicrafts workshops.

The first day closes with a gala reception for all Session delegates, plus invited U.S. government and African government officials.  It is during this reception that companies on a first-come, first-served basis will display products/product information*.

The second and final day of the Session will consist of continued sector-specific workshops and a luncheon for all delegates.
