CCA Garners Record Number of Corporate Sponsorships in Summit History

Washington, D.C.— The Corporate Council on Africa (CCA) today announced that the 7th Biennial U.S. – Africa Business Summit: Realizing the Investment Power of Africa has received the largest amount of corporate sponsors in its fourteen year history.  This year’s summit will be held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C., September 29 – October 1, 2009.

A record number of 67 companies are lending their support to the summit, which is internationally recognized as the premier private and public sector gathering of U.S. and Africa representatives.  Through an electronic matchmaking program, summit registrants may schedule meetings with sponsors by registering at: http://meetings.pgcedc.com/register.html.

Summit registrants may also meet with potential partners at the “Doing Business Forums” in Ethiopia, Angola and Namibia; at these forums participants will gain a greater understanding of the investment opportunities in these three countries.  The summit will also provide registrants with the occasion to hear from some of the most prominent members of the Obama administration, such as:  Johnnie Carson, assistant secretary of state for Africa; Ron Kirk, United States trade representative; Neal Wolin, deputy secretary of the U.S. Treasury; and Bud Philbrook, deputy under secretary for farm and foreign agricultural services.

Several heads of state will also participate at this year’s summit: Paul Kagame, Republic of Rwanda; John Atta Mills, Republic of Ghana; Jakaya Kikwete, United Republic of Tanzania; Denis Sassou Nguesso, Republic of Congo; Teodoro Nguema Obiang, Republic of Equatorial Guinea; and Fradique de Menezes, Republic of Sao Tomé & Principe.
