Minister Nkate born 1961 is a Motswana by birth and his educational background is law. He graduated his LLB in 1981 at the Universities of Botswana and Edinburgh after which he became a Magistrate at Francistown and Palapye. In 1989 he became a Private Practitioner in law until 1994 when he joined politics and became Member of Parliament. Minister Nkate progressed into an Assistant Minister Finance and Development Planning in 1997 to 1999 until October 1999 when he was appointed Minister to the recent post of Minister of Lands, Housing and Environment.
Minister Nkate has attended a number of conferences of international importance such as the Commonwealth and Trade Conference in UK and South Korea, World Tourism Organisation in Indonesia; IPU and UNESCO Conference in Education Science, Cultures and Communication SADC Trade in South Africa, UNEP Governing Council in Malmo Sweden, Global Coalition for Africa in Nigeria, IUC World Conservation Congress in Jordan. Extra Ordinary meeting of SADC Ministers of Environment in Luanda, Angola – 2001, World Summit on Sustainable Development, - (WSSD) Johannesburg, South Africa.
He holds Memberships of several national and international bodies such as Chairperson of the Parlimentary Law Reform, Member of the Presidential Task Force on Vision 2016, USIS Tour Political Systems and Structures in the US, Governor and Chairperson of the African Development Bank and others.
