Raymond A. Almeida monitor policy affecting poor and hungry people in sub-Saharan Africa and develops legislative strategy for Bread for the World. In 1998, Alemeida led BFW’s successful campaign for the Africa: Seeds of Hope Act (Public Law 105-385), which helps small scale farmers in Africa and also led BFW’s 2001 campaign, Africa: Hunger to harvest. Alemeida has helped create Bread for the World Institute ‘s Africa food Security Project to partner with organizations in Mozambique and Malawi. Researching the effects of changing market and trade policies and U.S. poverty alleviation programs on small-scale farmers in Africa. Ray has led Bread’s work in support of the passage of the Africa Growth and opportunity Act.
He lived in the Cape Verde Islands of West Africa for five years. Alemeida holds a master’s degree from Harvard University and was a community Felloe in the Department of Urban Studies and planning at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has been at BFW for almost seven years. Prior to joining Bread’s staff he was on the professional staff f the US House of Representatives
