In October 2000, the 20-member Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) became the first regional grouping in Africa to launch a Free Trade Area. This workshop will examine the results of this groundbreaking initiative for African and U.S. businesses. Workshop participants will learn how and why the COMESA Free Trade Area has bolstered intra-regional trade by more than 30 percent, increased regional investment and diversified the region's exports.
