Cameroon Takes Delivery Of Its First Boeing 767   

SEATTLE - January 26, 2001 - Boeing and Cameroon Airlines today celebrate the delivery of the airline's first 767 airplane. The airplane will be leased through an agreement with Ansett Worldwide Aviation Services. The 767-300ER (extended range) airplane seats 244 passengers, 24 in business and 220 in economy class.  

"We are looking forward to operating and becoming one of the newest members of the 767 family," said Yves Michel FOTSO, managing director, Cameroon Airlines. "The 767-300ER will be used to expand our international routes."

Cameroon operates one of the youngest airplane fleets in Africa and the world, and has been flying Boeing airplanes since 1971.

"The Boeing 767 family has proven itself to be a popular choice with airlines around the world because of its versatility, low-operating cost and passenger-pleasing cabin interior," said Crispin Maunder, executive vice president Sales and Marketing, Ansett Worldwide Aviation Services. "We are pleased that Cameroon Airlines is introducing the Boeing 767 into its fleet."

Cameroon Airlines operates a network of international passenger services from Western and Central Africa to Europe, and provides extensive domestic travel in Africa.

The 767 family has the lowest operating cost per trip of any widebody airplane. This low-operating cost, combined with a choice of three passenger and one freighter models with range capability from 5,645 nautical miles (10,440 km) on the 767-400ER to 6,615 nautical miles (12,250 km) on the 767-200ER, universal airport compatibility and ETOPS capability is what makes the 767 a versatile family of airplanes. Extensive commonality with the Boeing 757, which includes a common pilot-type rating, offers those operators that operate both models even more versatility.

The 767 is one of the most popular wide body airplanes ever built. With over 900 airplane orders from 80 operators it is second only to the 747 in total sales. To maintain this market leadership, Boeing is continually improving the 767's features and capabilities. This last year, Boeing delivered its first newest member of the 767 family - the 767-400ER. In September, the company said it has committed to production an even longer-range 767-400ER that will fly more than 6,100 nautical miles (11,325 km).
