The two companies, which joined forces on one mammoth stand, introduced a whole host of innovations. New products galore were unveiled, major investments were announced, and a new logo was revealed.

At the exhibition, International Truck and Engine Corporation announced a $700 million investment in new products which will ensure that it will always offer the latest and greatest trucks to the market. The investment will enable the company to develop its NGV (next generation vehicle). A new product will be launched every six months. The NGV is a closely-guarded secret however initial reports reveal that it will set new standards in terms of driver comfort. It will drive like a car and will boast a revolutionary, distinctive new look. The first new product is currently being launched in the United States, with the entire International product line-up being replaced over time. The local new product roll-out will begin in late 2002.

For the first time, a 9800 with the new Cummins ISX engine was seen at Auto Africa. The 9800 has always been known for delivering maximum uptime, low operating and maintenance costs and high residual value. It boasts features such as industry-leading aerodynamics (which result in fuel savings), lots of room in the cab and superb accessibility, making maintenance easy. Given fitment of the powerful new Cummins ISX 475 hp, Tyco International is confident that we will see even more 9800s on South Africa's roads.
