The Attracting Capital to Africa Summit

Philadelphia, PA

September 16- 20, 2001

The Corporate Council on Africa is proud to announce that it will host its next Attracting Capital to Africa Summit in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, September 16-20, 2001. The Attracting Capital to Africa Summit is a hallmark of the Corporate Council on Africa's activities. Held every two years, the Summit consists of conferences, meetings and workshops that are directly geared towards enhancing U.S. - Africa commercial relationships. It is intended to increase the American private sector's awareness of the commercial opportunities that exist in Africa, and to address specific policy issues that the US private sector confronts in the African marketplace.

While a large part of the conference will focus on US business involvement in Africa, education, health, HIV/AIDS and agriculture will also be major topics of workshops during the Summit. The 2001 Summit will highlight Pennsylvania and specifically, the City of Philadelphia, to the 800 plus delegates from US and Africa, who will attend and participate in this program.

More than 800 African and American decision makers, including nine African heads of state and high level government officials, participated in the 1999 Attracting Capital to Africa Summit in Houston, Texas. The 1999 Houston Summit was the largest business summit on Africa ever held in the United States.

Preparations for the "Attracting Capital to Africa" Summit 2001 have begun in earnest. On May 17th, five members of the Council's Summit 2001's Steering Committee traveled to Philadelphia for a site visit. The Summit's main venues will be the Pennsylvania Convention Center and the new Loews Philadelphia Hotel.
