The HIV/AIDS Initiative is actively working in many areas with public and private sector partners in Africa

What we do:

  • Support individual CCA member companies: CCA HIV/AIDS Initiative work closely with CCA members to identify company needs and match businesses with technical assistance providers for in-country support on the development of HIV/AIDS initiatives. See our Member Profiles Section for information on companies already engaged in the fight against HIV/AIDS. For a list of technical assistance providers see the Partnerships page or the Useful Links page. Read more about the Healthcare Workshops the Initiative organized at the 2007 CCA U.S.-Africa Business Summit, as well as the complete agenda from the Initiative's 2008 U.S.-Africa Private Sector Health Forum.
  • Develop sector-specific initiatives: Just as each company has individual needs regarding HIV/AIDS and other healthcare issues; each sector requires different approaches to most effectively address the impact of HIV/AIDS in each market. Please see the CCA ICT Initiative page to learn more about our work with ICT sector companies.
  • Identify funding opportunities: The private sector is not always aware of the financing opportunities that are available for private sector HIV/AIDS programs. The Initiative assists members in identifying and accessing these funds. Please see the Funding Opportunities page for a list of donor agencies.
  • Engage the private sector in national agendas on HIV/AIDS: CCA works with national HIV/AIDS commissions in Africa and the private sector on developing strategies for companies, individually or through professional associations and business coalitions, to become more actively engaged in the national response to HIV/AIDS. A majority of CCA's work to engage the private sector in the national agenda is done in partnership with the World Bank's Multi-Country AIDS Program (MAP).
  • Work in-country and in-region: To date, the Initiative team has engaged member companies in countries in West, Central and Southern Africa and continues to assist in the development of and participate in public and private sector forums, meetings and events on the continent. For more details on our work in Africa, please see the In-Country Work and Events pages.
  • Develop and disseminate private sector specific resources: CCA works closely with partner organizations, including All Africa Global Media, the World Bank Multi-Country Aids Program (MAP), the International Finance Corporation Against AIDS Program, and the World Economic Forum Global Health Initiative to assist companies in the development and implementation of HIV/AIDS intiatives, and to develop, adapt and disseminate the following types of resources:
